Pinewood Derby – Pack 194
And what in the world does this have to do with Photography? Absolutely nothing! I just wanted to share part of how I spend my time with my family. As a matter of fact, the photography contained in this post is brutal. With my cell phone! I took very few photos as I wanted to be present and in the moment enjoying the energy of the event and the reactions on my boys faces in real time. Would it have been great to capture them and add them to a physical album? Sure it would, but the images in my head are all that I need. It’s a nice feeling to be able to put down the camera.
So, this is the annual Pinewood Derby for pack 194. It’s held at Dr. NH Jones Elementary School in Ocala as they are our Charter Organization. My boys have been involved for a few years and enjoy the company of their friends while building character. This is, by far, their most favorite event! We have great intentions from the initial announcement, but you know we are always up until midnight the night before adding graphite to the wheels and pitching the axle at just the right angle. I had no idea about this prior to my boys getting involved, but there are some serious hard-core Pinewood Derby car builders out there. It’s totally serious! We ended the event with a 1st place and a 2nd place trophy! Jenny E Photography Central Florida
You might be surprised to know that I got in on the action, too! I certainly did. I had the most bedazzled car with a gorgeous coating of glossy teal beneath. It was a show stopper. Well… I thought it was. I got to race against all of the Dads. I think that I won one heat? I was pretty fast, but not fast enough. I didn’t even place. Boo. Watch out, Dads! I’m coming on really strong next year!
