365 Day Project | Day 29 | Ocala Photographer
This is one of those days when I didn’t have a plan. I was sure that I could find SOMETHING to photograph on my way to school for afternoon pick-up. It came to me as I was waiting at a red light for what seemed like forever. I was peeking through my side-view mirrors and there was so much more happening behind me than in front. I thought it might be interesting to be able to capture both views at one time using the mirror.
Easier said than done.
First of all, I am driving. Yup, I don’t recommend anyone try this at home. Very hard to frame and focus. Lots and lots and lots of trial and error. Secondly, it’s a little shady when you’re driving and you’re taking photos….kind of like I’m stalking someone? When I was in heavier traffic, I got some strange stares from folks. I know that I shouldn’t care, but I get a little sensitive. And lastly, finding the right composition. The constant change through the lens was challenge. I attempted to shoot with intention and not spray and pray.
When my idea struck, I thought that I wanted a more commercial environment with more traffic. I started shooting and I just wasn’t achieving what I was going for. So as I continued on my route home after picking up the boy, the scenery started to change and I started to like what I was seeing…and the traffic was thinning out. I liked that so much better. I drove one block out of my way to capture an image that I hoped would be more quaint and warm. I think that I got it.
This is 8th Street. Lots of cute homes line this Live Oak shaded street. This is part of the Historic District in Ocala. A picture perfect elementary school resides a few blocks away. And a lot of sweet bungalows and grand Victorians stand here as well. It’s a pretty cute neighborhood. I’m very fortunate to live nearby!
