365 Day Project | Day 15 | 01.11.2013

By now, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that my boys are into tractors, but prefer the working kind.

This old girl or is it a guy(?) has definitely seen better days. She and a lot of her friends are lined up in the non-working machine aisle at a local auction.

Weeks Auction is an institution. It’s an equipment auction that takes place the second Friday of every month. They sell EVERYTHING: excavators, rollers, field sprayers, balers, mowers, tractors with only a few hours on them, tractors for parts or scrap, trailers of every kind, pallets of paving stones, barn doors, field fence, barbed wire, restaurant equipment, food safe barrels. Sometimes, businesses will close and they’ll sell off their equipment…copy machines, old computers, desks, file cabinets, conference tables, cubicles, etc… Gosh, you name it and they probably have it or will have it at the next auction. Because you never know what they’re going to have, one needs to stop by frequently leading up to the day of the auction. My boys never object to a random visit to Weeks. It’s great fun for them to crawl up into the driver’s seat of the huge equipment. Sometime’s Dad test-drives a few. (Could it be Dad who enjoys these visits more? Hmmm…).

This image is from the day before the monthly auction. I often wonder how some of these pieces arrive at this state. This gal looked like she was rusting away in a field with grapevine weaving in and out of her split midsection. Just look at the dry rot in that front tire! I suppose someone would buy this for parts? I have no idea.

I captured this image with a small aperture to make sure that every detail was in the focal place. I then performed a black & white conversion to calm the image and to take the viewer back in time.

*UPDATE: She sold for $600! Not bad, right? If you have a broken down gal like this in your yard, I suggest you roll her into Weeks!
